WRS were engaged as the Head Design & Construct Contractor by a Hunter Valley Mine Owner to undertake the first stage (of four) of their mine optimisation project which included construction of new mine infrastructure area (MIA) infrastructure necessary to support a planned increase in production.
The Stage One project MIA infrastructure upgrade included:
• A new four bay heavy vehicle workshop, including
-- 3,000m2 internal footprint.
-- 1,700m2 external apron with jacking areas for Ultra Class and 944K Shovel.
-- 27m ridge height.
-- Four maintenance and jacking bays for ‘Ultra Class’ dump trucks and heavy vehicles.
-- Four Tyre handler access bays in between each vehicle maintenance bay.
-- 9 Product + air outlet lubricant dispensing stations at each service bay with provision for expansion to 10 bays.
-- Fully reticulated compressed air system with provision for expansion to 10 bays.
-- 30T/5T Gantry Crane servicing entire 100m floor run and 16.9m hook clearance.
-- Roller Shutter access doors.
-- Epoxy floors with line marking throughout.
• Relocated and upgraded tyre change facility, including demolition of the existing tyre change facility.
• New lube facility with full digital /IO switch/ fibreoptic network controls and facility to integrate into future SCADA including modular tank fill and Mine Service Vehicle fill points
• Fire system & hydrant upgrade (sitewide).
• Potable Water, Raw Water and Fire Water Ring Main (800m in length).
• Fire Pump Upgrade.
• Site wide fibre-optic upgrade.
• High voltage switchroom connected to a new HV power supply.
• Design to consider future construction staging and expansion to 10 bays (5long x 2 wide with all bays to be ‘drive through’.
The project included significant value engineering and design development on an isolated, regional site (2hrs from Newcastle). WRS’s team implemented significant ‘value-add’ design and construction strategies to deliver a world class facility for the mine owners and mine operators by working collaboratively within challenging timeframes within a busy operating Mine Industrial Area.
