Canterbury College had three outdoor courts which were exposed to the elements. It was time for a facelift that extended the sporting hours and provided a multi-purpose building that was able to be utilised day and night.
WIlliams River Steel designed the building which stands at 9m high with a floor area of over 3000sqm and features three indoor courts (basketball, netball and volleyball), a gymnasium on the 250sqm mezzanine level, 400sqm staging area, VIP viewing area for stage productions, kitchen with internal and external serving area, amenities including showers and change rooms and outside large undercover awnings over the entry and external servery.
Our contract included site works for the removal and replacement of three outdoor courts which are now located inside the new multipurpose building.
Large aluminium louver panels were featured to assist with crossflow ventilation. Separate entry points for the gym and main auditorium allowed large audiences to be seated quickly. Fully lined with internal impact resistant gyprock and acoustic sheeting together with insulation was installed internally for stage productions and the roof and walls were fully insulated for comfortable conditions year round,
