The COLA was erected over the existing basketball area with an expanse of 36m x 24m. The shelter across the sports area converts the basketball courts into a year-round facility that is also used for assemblies, presentations and outdoor classrooms as well as a play area.
To help reduce the noise to the surrounding classrooms during use, the COLA was fully lined with acoustic insulation. Bird proofing was also installed to the open sided structure proving a clean, flexible shelter for the school.
Ashtonfield have gained the area that once was for ballgames in fair weather only to having a flexible all weather zone that has become the heart of the school.
